Allergy Awareness

Bradshaw Hall Primary School is committed to supporting children and staff with allergies and promoting the allergy awareness through the whole school community.

A number of children currently attending the school have an increased risk of allergic reaction to a variety of allergens, including a range of nuts, milk and dairy, fruits, atmospheric and environmental conditions. Reactions can range from mild discomfort and feeling 'under the weather', to mild to moderate allergic reaction requiring a dose of antihistamine, through to a serve reaction such as Anaphylaxis. This is where the reaction is so serve the patient will be finding it very difficult to breath and could ultimately result in death, if not treated quickly enough.

As a school, we adhere to the statory guidance - Allergy Safety in Schools (July 2026) and have all the necessary protocols, procedures and policies in place so we are best able to support children, families and staff with allergies. All mediation, such as antihistamine and Auto Adrenaline Injectors - AAI's (EpiPen or Jext Pen) are stored in each classroom with an additional Pen easily accessible located in the school office. In addition, we have 2x spare AAI's accessible in an emergency located adjacent to our defibrillator should an EpiPen belonging to a child fail or in circumstances where a child has a first reaction to an unknown allergy.

Staff receive specific allergy training which is updated annually. We have an 'Allergy Lead' in school who ensures all medical records and training is up to date and accurate and reviewed on an annual programme.

If your child is starting at Bradshaw Hall, please let us know your child's particular needs as soon as possible. We look forward to supporting your child during their time at our school.
